Merge Records will reissue both of Neutral Milk Hotel's albums on 180-gram vinyl on Nov. 3.
On Avery Island and In The Aeroplane Over The Sea will be packaged with a code to download high quality digital tracks, but the downloads will not contain any bonus material. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea was previously re-released in 2005.
Both albums, particularly Aeroplane, have been gaining indie cult status since the band's long term hiatus after its release. While Neutral Milk Hotel have never officially split up, they haven't released new material in over 11 years, and their reclusive frontman Jeff Mangum has been relatively clandestine in his contributions to the music world since.
Julian Koster now leads indie troupe The Music Tapes, while Scott Spillane fronts The Gerbils and Jeremy Barnes performs with A Hack And A Hacksaw.
While you might think news of a re-release would give hope to some new Nuetral Milk Hotel material coming our way, unfortunately there's no sign of new music to come.
