Arkells, Protest The Hero, USS Amongst Bands Busking For Change For War Child

Arkells

Asking for $30,000 from strangers in the middle of an economic crisis may seem like a lot.

Chantal Kreviazuk intends to do that and use the money to build and run a youth centre in Sudan's war-torn Darfur region with help from this year's Busking For Change, a Toronto-based War Child initiative taking place on Tuesday.

Busking For Change, which is in its second year, will make Toronto street corners home to some of Canada's most prominent musicians for the day. They'll will showcase their talent in exchange for donations that will go to War Child's projects worldwide.

Busking For Change will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at major street corners and in busy downtown buildings on Tuesday. Students from across Canada will also busk for change at their schools and in their communities to support the cause. This year, artists are encouraging people who are unable to come downtown to donate online.

Our Lady Peace's Raine Maida, Kreviazuk's husband, inspired this event when he spent 12 hours in 2007 busking, raising $22,000 for War Child Canada's School Rehabilitation and Revitalization project in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Maida used the opportunity to film the video for his solo album's first single that day.

The full artist and location schedule will be announced on Monday, Sept. 28 on the War Child Canada website.

More artists will be announced over the next few days, but for now this year's list of notable buskers includes:
