Muse, Grizzly Bear, BRMC All Confirmed For New Moon Tracklist

The details for the New Moon soundtrack were released via author Stephenie Meyer's website on Monday, and the movie is set to feature music from The Killers, Death Cab For Cutie and Lykke Li.

The choice to be featured on the soundtrack is proving either that the recession is still alive and well, or that vampire sparkle is a real thing, and we should be very afraid for our favourite indie artists.

While some of the picks are unsurprising — OK Go seem to be releasing tracks on every tween compilation in existence, and Thom Yorke is the founding father of lending tracks for teen movies (see Clueless, Romeo And Juliet) — there are certain indie kid favourites that are puzzling to see on the list.

Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver and St. Vincent's contributions are beyond any explanation other than the obvious use of vampire sparkle (that's glamour, for all you True Blood fans) or these times of economic uncertainty. And hey, can you blame them? Every tween who sees this movie will most likely also want the soundtrack.

All this isn't to say the track listing isn't impressive. Muse's remix of "I Belong To You" off their brand new The Resistance is featured in large part because they're one of Meyer's favourite bands.

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy told MTV UK the track itself is "one of the weirder tracks on the album... one of the 'can't believe we got away with it' kind of tracks. I think it might be worth giving it a go (because) it's a track that might not get played live very often... so it might give that track some life that it wouldn't have otherwise."

So long as you can sleep at night, being on the New Moon soundtrack is alright with us.
