The Trews will release a live CD/DVD package,
Friends & Total Strangers, on Oct. 6 through Universal Music Canada.
It was recorded at Toronto's Glenn Gould Theatre earlier this year and features the band playing acoustic versions of their songs. It includes previously unreleased and brand new songs like first single "Sing Your Heart Out" and a cover of Joe Tex's "The Love You Save."
The DVD features behind-the-scenes footage, videos for the singles from 2008's
No Time For Later and other footage from the studio and the band's previous tours.
"We thought [
Friends & Total Strangers] was different enough from what we do to merit its own 90-minute performance," guitarist John-Angus MacDonald says. "A lot of these songs are strummed on acoustic guitars first anyway. It's where they've come from."
"We've always had this other side of us, which is three acoustic guitars and a hand drum," singer/guitarist Colin MacDonald says. "We used to busk in this way and people would stop to listen to the harmonies. It shines a different light on the band; it's not just the loud, in-your-face bar rock. I don't think there are a lot of bands out there who do the harmony thing, outside of pop groups."
The Trews will support
Friends & Total Strangers on tour this fall. They'll play an acoustic tour beginning Nov. 2.
