Basia Bulat Second Album Set For January Release

Basia Bulat's sophomore album, Heart Of My Own, is set for a Jan. 26 release through Secret City Records.
The disc was inspired by extensive touring following the release of her 2008 Polaris Music Prize short listed Oh, My Darling debut. It chronicles experiences on the road crossing the prairies, spending time in the Yukon and searching for a place to stop in the Nevada desert.
"I think it is at times extremely sparse and, well, spacious, with big
choirs singing," Bulat says of the record, "and then it gets really dense with really
spirited and rolling drums."
Bulat reunited with producer Howard Bilerman (Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band) of Hotel2Tango earlier this year to work on the record.
The album's first single, "Gold Rush", is available for a preview on the Secret City Records' website.
Bulat garnered critical praise from media outlets worldwide for Oh, My Darling, including NPR who called her single "In The Night" one of last year's best songs. Her being signed to Secret City means the label is now the home to four Polaris Music Prize short listers. (Miracle Fortress, Plants And Animals and 2007 Polaris Music Prize winner Patrick Watson are the others.)

Sept. 19 Kingston, ON @ The Grad Club at Queen's University
Sept. 23 Vancouver, BC @ St. James Hall
Sept. 24 Victoria, BC @ Metro Studio Theatre
