Second Grinderman Album Finished

Grinderman
Grinderman, Nick Cave's band that also includes former Bad Seeds member Warren Ellis, have finished recording their sophomore album, which should be out sometime next year.

Ellis told The Quietus that the follow-up to Grinderman's 2007 self-titled debut, which doesn't yet have a title or release date, was mixed over the summer and still needs a bit more mastering, but it's largely finished.

"It's very different from [Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' 2008 album] Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! and it's very different from the first Grinderman album," Ellis said. "There's an attitude in there that's similar, but sonically it's got some pretty weird things going on.

"It's kind of like stoner rock meets Sly Stone via Amon Duul. Nick's got a different thing going on with the lyrics than he would have from the Bad Seeds. Less sex? I wouldn't say that."

Before the Grinderman album comes out, Cave and Ellis will release an album called White Lunar on Sept. 22. It's a compilation featuring music they've written for film soundtracks.

Cave released his second novel, The Death Of Bunny Munro, on Sept. 4. He'll sign copies of it at Toronto's Eaton Centre on Wednesday and at Ottawa's Saint Brigid's Centre For The Arts And Humanities a day later.
