Sonic Youth will not appear at this year's Austin City Limits Music Festival and have cancelled six other American dates because guitarist Lee Ranaldo fractured his wrist playing tennis.
The band have cancelled their Santa Barbara, Calif. show that was slated to take place Sept. 26. The five other American dates have been rescheduled for January.
Sonic Youth aren't the only band to cancel their appearance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival this year. Beastie Boys cancelled all their upcoming tour dates this year — including a slot at the festival — after it was revealed Adam "MCA" Yauch had cancer and needed to undergo chemotherapy.
Sonic Youth's European dates slated for October and their North American dates in November remain unaffected by the cancellations.
Ranaldo, singer/bassist/guitarist Kim Gordon, singer/guitarist Thurston Moore, bassist Mark Ibold and drummer Steve Shelley will play these dates in support of this year's The Eternal:
Oct. 21 Berlin, Germany @ Columbiahalle
Oct. 22 Brussels, Belgium @ L'Ancienne Belgique
Oct. 23 London, England @ The Forum
Oct. 25 Paris, France @ Palais De Congres
Nov. 7 Sao Paulo, Brazil @ Planeta Terra Festival
Nov. 21 New York, NY @ Terminal 5
Nov. 22-23 Boston, MA @ Wilbur Theatre
Dec. 5 Minehead, England @ Butlin's Holiday Centre (All Tomorrow's Parties)
Dec. 6 Dublin, Ireland @ Vicar Street
Jan. 4 Tucson, AZ @ Rialto Theatre
Jan. 5 Tempe, AZ @ Marquee Theatre
Jan. 7 San Diego, CA @ House Of Blues
Jan. 8 Pomona, CA @ Fox Theatre
Jan. 9 Los Angeles, CA @ The Wiltern Theatre
