Metallica Calms Monkeys According To Study

You'd think music like Metallica would make monkeys go berzerk, but the opposite is true: it calms them down.

A study by the Royal Society journal Biology Letters reportedly proves this. After playing recorded monkey sounds to the animals, researchers blasted the monkeys with 30-second clips of music including pieces by Nine Inch Nails, Samuel Barber and Metallica, according to The Guardian.

Metallica's songs were the only human music that got any response from the monkeys. It calmed them down. That proves monkeys rarely respond to human music, Josh McDermott, an expert on music perception at New York University, says.

"They might be more comforted if these more familiar sounds were played to them," he told The Guardian.
