If Seth Cohen, Adam Brody's Death Cab For Cutie-obsessed character on The O.C., didn't introduce the band to millions of overly emotional teenagers everywhere, Twilight sequel New Moon should be able to fix that quite soon.
Death Cab will appear on the New Moon soundtrack and have scored its first single. Singer/guitarist Ben Gibbard, guitarist Chris Walla, bassist Nick Harmer and drummer Jason McGerr will premiere the song, "Meet Me On The Equinox," at this year's MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 13.
"The big connection for us is 'Here's a wildly popular book series about vampires — which are awesome — set in the Northwest,' and we happen to be from the Northwest as well, so there's this sort of hometown pride thing going on," Harmer told MTV News. "I'm kind of happy that Stephenie Meyer put Forks, Washington, on the map for the entire globe.
"I think that a lot of our songs in general concern a lot of the things the main characters in the books are going through: There's a lot of stuff about relationships beginning and ending, and the question that happens around being in love and falling out of love. That's a comfort zone for us, so a lot of the lyrical content Ben writes also happens to line up with what the characters are going through in the film. Basically the Twilight series is about love, and that's a major theme for us."
Death Cab are the third act confirmed to appear on the New Moon soundtrack. Thom Yorke has written a song called "New Moon" for the film, and Bon Iver has also written a tune. Contrary to rumours, Kings Of Leon will not appear on the soundtrack.
New Moon opens in theatres Nov. 20.
