In what's probably one of the most unlikely collaborations to surface this year, retro soul/funk band Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings will appear on crooner Michael Buble's new album, Crazy Love, which is due out Oct. 13 through Reprise.
Buble recorded the album in Brooklyn, N.Y., Los Angeles and Vancouver over six months. Jones and the Dap-Kings appear on "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)," which is one of the songs on the 13-track album produced by singer/songwriter David Foster (Madonna, Backstreet Boys), Bob Rock (Metallica, Bryan Adams) and Humberto Gatica (Celine Dion, Michael Jackson).
"I started this record knowing I was going to record it differently than my previous ones," Buble says. "I dug way deeper and was more introspective on this one. Basically, I sang the truth — made each song autobiographical — and you can definitely hear the difference.
"I went back to the way my idols made their records. I wanted an organic feel — so people could feel like they were in the studio with me. The musicians and I all sat in the room, recorded it right from the floor and we let the sounds all come together and bleed into one another. It's not contrived. Not too perfect. It feels really good."
The disc features two originals co-written by Buble and 11 versions of other standards.
The Dap-Kings previously appeared on Amy Winehouse's Back To Black and have also worked with Mark Ronson. Jones has appeared on albums by Rufus Wainwright and They Might Be Giants.
Here are the songs on Crazy Love:
"Cry Me A River"
"All Of Me"
"Georgia On My Mind"
"Haven't Met You Yet"
"All I Do Is Dream Of You"
"Hold On"
"Heartache Tonight"
"You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You"
"Baby (You've Got What It Takes)"
"At This Moment"
"Stardust"
"Whatever It Takes" (bonus track)
