Jet Frontman Collapses, Wasn't Swine Flu

When it comes to onstage collapses, Jet's Nic Cester may have Placebo's Brian Molko beat.

The Jet frontman is currently in hospital after collapsing not once, but twice during the band's set at Q The Music Club Live At Hard Rock Cafe in London on Monday night.

Cester was feeling unwell prior to the show and was tested for swine flu, according to the Melbourne Herald Sun. According to reports, test results showed that Cester had not been infected with the virus and the singer was given an injection to settle his stomach.

Two songs into the performance, Cester passed out, but was able to return to the stage, joking that he had swine flu. He collapsed for a second time soon after and was taken by ambulance to London's University College Hospital.

Cester was treated for symptoms of gastroenteritis, acute vomiting and dehydration and was kept in hospital overnight, according to the Melbourne Herald Sun.

According to a post on the band's website, Cester was kept in hospital for an additional day.

"Jet's Nic Cester is currently undergoing further tests and evaluations," the post reads. "The Aussie rocker is suffering from dehydration and severe low blood pressure and is being held in hospital for a second day awaiting test results."

Cester's bandmates continued the show in his absence, according to the Melbourne Herald Sun, playing three more songs — "Holiday," "Beat On Repeat" and "Get What You Need."

Bassist Mark Wilson explained that the Australian rockers had not considered canceling the show, since each member has "had a moment where they've been chronically ill and had to go on stage."

"You've got to do it, you can't just cancel stuff," Wilson told the newspaper. "It's disappointing for people who come to see you and, unless you can't sing, there's no real reason to cancel something, I think, you know.

"The only time we've ever cancelled shows is when Nic's throat swelled up and he couldn't actually make any sounds."

Jet are currently touring in support of their upcoming third record, Shaka Rock. The follow-up to 2006's Shine On drops Aug. 25.
