Bat For Lashes, Kasabian, Glasvegas, The Horrors, Florence + The Machine, Friendly Fires and La Roux are among those who were named to the shortlist for Britain's Barclaycard Mercury Prize on Tuesday.
The prize honours the best album of the year by British or Irish artists from any genre, and will go to one of the 12 acts on this year's short list. The winner will be decided at a gala in London, England on Sept. 8.
Bat For Lashes is the only repeat nominee on this year's list. The woman born Natasha Khan made the 2007 short list for her Fur And Gold debut album. The 11 remaining nominees are all newcomers to the list.
British bookies have reportedly put the odds 5/1 in favour of Kasabian winning the Mercury Prize, but the band told NME.com they didn't even think they were going to be nominated. Florence + The Machine are also favoured to win.
Elbow's The Seldom Seen Kid won last year's Mercury Prize. Past recipients have included Klaxons, Primal Scream, Portishead, Badly Drawn Boy, PJ Harvey, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand and others.
Here are the finalists for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize:
Bat For Lashes — Two Suns
Florence + The Machine — Lungs
Friendly Fires — Friendly Fires
Glasvegas — Glasvegas
The Horrors — Primary Colours
The Invisible — The Invisible
La Roux — La Roux
Led Bib — Sensible Shoes
Lisa Hannigan — Sea Sew
Kasabian — West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum
Speech Debelle — Speech Therapy
Sweet Billy Pilgrim — Twice Born Men
