Canadian film director Bruce McDonald (Hard Core Logo, Dance Me Outside) is shooting a Broken Social Scene documentary titled This Movie Is Broken this summer and is looking for fan input.
McDonald is asking folks to upload video footage of images that help define and illuminate what Toronto means to them this month, but not Broken Social Scene footage. People who have their material used will receive an on-screen credit, an invitation to a special private viewing of the film and exclusive prizes.
"Use whatever you've got lying around — digital cameras, cell phones, handheld video cameras, your dad's old Super 8 — and try to capture something original," says a message on the movie's website.
"Experiment. Have fun. Our hope is that by integrating your footage with ours, we'll be able to create a visual mosaic that captures the city and the summer."
Material can be uploaded here or emailed to upload@thismovieisbroken.com. A short This Movie Is Broken trailer can be seen here.
Broken Social Scene scored McDonald's 2006 film, The Tracey Fragments, which starred Ellen Page (Juno) and Toronto singer/musician Slim Twig, so they have a good working relationship.
This Movie Is Broken was written by past McDonald collaborator, actor/writer/director Don McKellar (Roadkill, Highway 61). Shadow Shows and Arts & Crafts are producing the film.
Broken Social Scene have performances lined up here:
July 25 Burnaby, BC @ Deer Lake Park (Virgin Festival BC)
July 26 Lake Tahoe, CA @ Wanderlust Festival
Aug. 7 Dallas, TX @ The Palladium Ballroom
Aug. 8 Houston, TX @ Eleanor Tinsley Park (Free Press Summer Fest)
