Smashing Pumpkins singer
Billy Corgan recently replied to a fan letter on the band's
website and seemed to throw a barb at the late
Michael Jackson in the process.
In a post on Thursday, Corgan responded to a fan article entitled "Pumpkins by Any Other Name" that addressed the recent changes in personnel the band underwent, as well as the music created from the changes.
"In the center of any of it has been for me, personally speaking, my music," Corgan wrote. "Yes, MY music. The music that came out of this being and body. I've called the umbrella the songs came out of under different names but to me I guess there really wasn't a whole lot of difference. As they song, a song is a song."
Corgan also seemed to take a shot at recent events, and while not naming names, it's difficult not to conclude Jackson was his topic of conversation.
"We've all seen over the past 2 weeks what happens when a man loses touch with his hope, his spirit, and his music," Corgan wrote. "The path I am on is one of feeling reborn by my love for my music. I wasn't really deep down sure I could get back here, but I am here."
Corgan seemed to get a few more digs in two days ago — the same day as Jackson's memorial ceremony at Los Angeles' Staples Center — on his
Twitter.
"Today is a day where we should remember all the children who are victims of abuse," Corgan
wrote on Tuesday. It was perhaps a subtle (or not so subtle) reference to the allegations that Jackson abused children.
Smashing Pumpkins are in the studio writing new material, but not known whether the songs will be released digitally or physically.
I think the most important thing Billy said on Twitter was, "I wish we could treat each other in life each and every day the way we seem to find the strength to do in death."
That to me shows a lot of compassion towards MJ and the bad rap he got from the media for decades, but I guess you're not interested in that side of the story, just trying to create drama where there isn't any.
It's also important to remember that Billy himself is a survivor of pretty severe child abuse.
