The short list for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize has been announced, which means you can stop wondering whether your picks were right and whether your buddy owes you $10.

The 10 nominees were announced Tuesday morning at Toronto's Drake Hotel. The nominees were derived from a panel of 182 Canadian journalists, bloggers, broadcasters and programmers who were asked to choose their five favourite Canadian albums released between June 1, 2008 and May 31, 2009.

The long list of 40 titles was revealed last month. The winner will be decided by a grand jury at a Sept. 21 gala at the Concert Hall in Toronto's Masonic Temple.

Here is this year's Polaris Music Prize Short List:

Elliott Brood — Mountain Meadows
Fucked Up — The Chemistry Of Common Life
Great Lake Swimmers — Lost Channels
Hey Rosetta! — Into Your Lungs (And Around In Your Heart And On Through Your Blood)
K'Naan — Troubadour
Malajube — Labyrinthes
Metric — Fantasies
Joel Plaskett — Three
Chad VanGaalen — Soft Airplane
Patrick Watson — Wooden Arms

Yeah, same ol' same ol' down at the Polaris Voting Plant.

6 of the 10 picks were previous noms. In Canada, we reward consistency and reliability.

I voted for Lenny Cohen, so no one can blame me for not being au courent with the musical flavours of the day.
