Former Silver Jews frontman David Berman has just released a book of cartoons dubbed The Portable February.
The book came out through the band's label, Drag City, on June 23. Its cartoons are presented in stream-of-consciousness style with little to no context. The cartoons are more like doodles, and there's over 90 of them. You can order the book here.
"The drawings are pitched into some rudimentary space of public art, a place we might think of as between and below [The Far Side creator] Gary Larson and [artist] Raymond Pettibon," Berman said in a press release.
Berman dissolved Silver Jews in February after the band played their final show on Jan. 31. Berman formed the band in 1989 and released six albums over his career with Silver Jews. The band's final studio album was last year's Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea. Silver Jews' many former members included ex-Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus, Will Oldham (a.k.a. Bonnie 'Prince' Billy) and former A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lechantin, among others.
