Cancel your lunchtime date with the office vending machine — you could spend your noon hour with the leader of the Pumpkinheads himself, instead. Nonprofit auction website Charitybuzz is offering a grand prize of lunch with Billy Corgan to the highest bidder.
According to Charitybuzz, one lucky winner and a friend will meet the bald one at a "mutually convenient time" at an as-yet-undetermined restaurant in Los Angeles or Chicago. Oh — and the winner will handle the bill. Would coupons be tacky in this sitch-ee-ation?
As of right now, the top bid is $6,500 U.S. (about $7,550 Canadian). There are 21 bids so far, and the auction ends June 30 – look alive, Smashing Pumpkins (or Zwan) fans! If the pic of Corgan the online auctioneers have chosen to try to intimidate — ahem, entice — potential bidders isn't enough to make you want to whip out your wallet, I don't know what will.
Proceeds from the auction will go to the Songwriters Hall Of Fame, which attempts to "establish a permanent, state-of-the-art museum in New York City to highlight the achievements of songwriting greats and acknowledge their rightful place in our culture."
If the thought of talking Tila Tequila or radio royalties with Corgan doesn't exactly whet your appetite, the Songwriters Hall Of Fame is also auctioning a bass autographed by Pete Wentz, a guitar signed by Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora, meet-and-greets with Cher and Jason Mraz and an autographed Elvis Costello poster.
