Between last Christmas and New Year's,
Neil Finn once again recruited members of Radiohead, Wilco and The Smiths/Modest Mouse guitarist Johnny Marr for
Seven Worlds Collide II, and performed three intimate shows in New Zealand and recorded new material.
The sessions at Finn's Roundhead Studios went so well that a double album of original material entitled
The Sun Came Out will be released in Britain on Aug. 10. There's no North American release date set yet for the record. Proceeds from its sales will raise money for Oxfam.
The 24-track album includes Radiohead drummer Phil Selway singing for the first time on "The Ties That Bind Us" while Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and Marr team up for "Too Blue." And Finn and KT Tunstall team up for "Hazel Black," According to a June 19 post on Finn's
message board.
Other musicians involved include Radiohead's Ed O'Brien, Lisa Germano, Wilco's Glenn Kotche, Pat Sansone and John Stirratt and New Zealand singer/songwriter Bic Runga.
The album is the second such release for the collective. Finn released a live album (and DVD) entitled
Seven Worlds Collide in 2001, which also included Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder.
