Snow Patrol Are Against Abstinence

Snow Patrol

Snow Patrol will mount their own headlining tour behind last year's A Hundred Million Suns after they wrap their opening slot dates for U2 in North America in September.

According to the band's website, the band will stage a few headlining shows between their U2 dates before the tour truly gets underway in late September. The lone Canadian date is at Montreal's Metropolis on Sept. 18.

Tickets for all shows except Washington, D.C. go on sale to the general public on Saturday (June 27) and members of the SP.com fan club get the first crack at tickets through pre-sales.

Snow Patrol just finished a handful of dates opening for Coldplay in North America. But singer/guitarist Gary Lightbody says he couldn't go anywhere without seeing or hearing about the Jonas Brothers and was especially irked at one of their beliefs.

"Promise rings? Hmmm. As you read this people what are you thinking about now?" he wrote in a June 20 blog entry.

"Yup, thought so, sex. Or if not right now then ten minutes ago? Four minutes ago? From all of our teenage years onwards we think of sex a hell of a lot.

"What then do you think would be an apt suggestion to the youth of the world? You think abstinence is gonna cut the mustard? ABSTINENCE?! Yes indeed. What a good idea! Let's tell kids to simply fight their carnal (and wholly natural) urges and stay 'pure' until marriage. I may know very little (and I really don't know much) but one thing I'm sure of is that this simply will not work."
