The album is produced by Nick Diamonds, a.k.a. Nicholas Thorburn (The Unicorns, Human Highway, Reefer, Th' Corn Gangg) and Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blonde Redhead, TV On The Radio). Drummer Jamie Thompson (a.k.a. J'aime Tambeur) departed from Islands in 2007 for personal reasons, but has returned for this record, which moves away from the prog-rock the band began to explore with Arms Way.
"Jamie's back on deck, manning the drum machine, sequencerz, and tom toms," Islands wrote in a June 19 MySpace blog entry.
Vapours promises looks to be more pop-based, with plenty of hooks and synthesizers.
No track listing for Vapours has been announced yet, but you may be able to hear some of its songs when Islands play a free outdoor concert as part of the Toronto Pride festivities on June 27 at the stage at Queen and Wood streets.
