Katy Perry is one of a kind — and she intends to keep it that way.
The pop singer has threatened legal action against an Australian designer named
Katie Perry, whose loungewear label bears the designer's name.
Katie Perry received a letter last week from Katy Perry's attorneys at the Queensland law firm Fisher Adams Kelly. The letter demanded the designer remove the label from her fashion line despite the slight difference in spelling. Katie Perry was surprised by the letter and plans to fight the singer's demands in court.
"I got such a huge shock," she told the World Entertainment News Network. "It really felt like I was being intimidated and bullied into signing everything away.
"[The letter] asked me to give up the trademark, withdraw sale of my clothes, withdraw any advertising and any websites, and sign that I will not in the future use a similar trademark to Katy Perry," she continued. "I pretty much burst into tears."
Designer Katie Perry began her label two years ago, and opened her first retail outlet outside of Sydney last week.
"I love my business," stated the Aussie. "I'm not going to give it away without a fight either. I'm not trying to become a singer. I'm not pretending to be her.
"This is my income. And it's the livelihood of my contractors as well."
Katie Perry may have less to worry about than she thinks. It's unlikely that anyone would confuse the line of simple jersey loungewear for something backed by a woman who wore
this.
