One, two, three, four, Kenny Loggins is back for more!
The soft rock singer/songwriter will rewrite Feist's "1,2,3,4" for his upcoming children's album, All Join In, which will be released on July 21.
Feist's Juno Award-winning tune seems gleeful and happy, but Loggins says it's not, and it turns out he doesn't think it's appropriate for children — so he rewrote it.
"'1,2,3,4' seems like a lighthearted song, but it's very dark lyrically," Loggins told Spinner.com. "And if you really drop into the lyrics, it just doesn't feel appropriate to have an 11-year-old singing. It's more of a grown woman talking about the condition of her life at this moment."
We're a little confused about what's inappropriate about that, but hey, Feist already set the precedent when she rewrote the lyrics for a version of the song she performed it on Sesame Street.
Feist — a child of the Footloose generation — approved Loggins' rewrite of the song, which he describes as "a much more extensive lyric change than anything on the album."
"Once [Feist] heard it she said, 'I really love what you've done with it," he said.
All Join In will also include Loggins' version of The Beatles' "All Together Now," which also features rewritten lyrics.
Loggins' latest album is 2007's How About Now.
The video for Feist's "Honey, Honey," which includes work from the Old Trout Workshop, will screen at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 20 and June 28. Tickets to the screenings are available here.
