Panic At The Disco are finishing writing a new album, the follow-up to last year's Pretty.Odd.

"We've been doing home demos for the past six months — just kind of writing — and we're pretty close," frontman Brendon Urie told MTV News. "Still some work to be done, though... hoping to finish that up over the next couple months."

The Grammy-nominated band have been recording at guitarist Ryan Ross' home in Topanga Canyon, Calif., a very different environment from the cabin in the Nevada mountains where they did the initial work on Odd.

The California sunshine seems to have influenced the band's early demos — for this album, PATD will build upon the retro-pop sounds of Odd., citing influences like the Beatles and The Beach Boys.

"Our last two records kind of sounded different," explained Urie. "This one is... I don't even know how to describe it. We've always been a pop band. We've always been fans of pop music, whether it's the Beatles — which is, like, the beginning of pop music — we've always been fans of good catchy melodies and lighthearted music."

PATD haven't yet confirmed when they will enter the studio to begin recording the songs, but Urie hinted at what listeners can expect.

"The songs are about girls, man," said Urie. "My mom is just riding my ass every day."

The Las Vegas natives recently released Live In Chicago, a CD/DVD featuring a 17-song live set and a tour documentary entitled In The Days.

PATD will open for Blink-182 on the first part of their summer tour, alongside Fall Out Boy and hip-hop/pop duo Chester French. You can see Panic At The Disco here:
