Matt Mays Band Torpedoed

Matt Mays & El Torpedo
Matt Mays is going to have to rename his backing band, since he's dissolved El Torpedo, the band that supported him on tour and on 2005's Matt Mays & El Torpedo and last year's Terminal Romance albums.

Drummer Tim Baker and bassist Andy Patil left the band, which prompted Mays to do away with the El Torpedo moniker. Halifax bluesman Garrett Mason's drummer, Damien Moynihan, and Mays' former Guthries bandmates Dale Murray and Serge Sampson have joined his new, still-unnamed backing band that will tour with him this summer. Keyboardist Adam Baldwin and guitarist Jay Smith will continue in the new band.

"Things change, the clocks keeps pounding forward," Mays wrote on his website on Tuesday. "I feel their rhythm and am desired to pound on as well. I'm inspired by newness. Fueled by change. It's like the excitement of finding a new love. The theme of my live show will remain the same. Good friends playing loud rock 'n' roll together. We look forward to seeing you all this summer."
