Last week's aberration — a change in the top album on the top 50 chart — seems to have ended with this week's chart. Rather than two different albums battling back and forth for top spot, we have a champion (Metric) and a pretender (Pink Mountaintops) to the throne.
Metric's Fantasies sits in the #1 position on this chart for a second week — and a fourth week in total. Two weeks ago, Pink Mountaintops' Outside Love replaced Metric at #1, but it remains at #2 this week.
MSTRKRFT's Fist Of God jumps up nine places to sit at #3, while Clues' self-titled album slides up a place to #4. King Khan & The Shrines' What Is?! rebounds from a drop last week and jumps five positions to #5.
Apostle Of Hustle's Eats Darkness had the biggest rise among the top albums this week. It rose 18 places to settle at #6. Patrick Watson's Wooden Arms drops three positions to #7, and is followed by another double digit rise of an album, as Think About Life's Family moves 10 positions to #8. Joel Plaskett's Three drops six spots to #9, which pushes Japandroids' Post-Nothing down a place to #10.
It's rare that a re-entering album fairs better than an new entry for the highest debut. A month ago, the aforementioned Japandroids release did the trick when it re-entered the top ten. This week, Silversun Pickups' Swoon returns to the chart at #19. This album originally debuted at #29 two weeks ago.
The Chart Sizzler award for the highest new entry goes to the amazing new album by Grizzly Bear. This Brooklyn-based quartet's new album, Veckatimest, arrives at #30 and beats out both New York Dolls's 'Cause I Sez So at #35 and Conor Oberst And The Mystic Valley Band's Outer South at #36 for this week's top debut.
There were wholesale changes at the top of all five Specialty charts this week. MSTRKRFT's Fist Of God moves up one place to capture the #1 position on the Electronic top ten. Heaven & Hell's The Devil You Know rises two spots to take over the #1 position on the Metal/Punk chart.
Frederico Aubele's Amatoria achieves a similar two place rise on the World/Folk top ten. Medeski, Martin & Wood's Radiolarians II rises five spots to hit #1 on the Jazz/Blues chart, while D-Sisive's Let The Children Die also rises five places to grab top spot on the Hip Hop chart.
