C-Murder: No Contest To Attempted Murder Charges

Rapper C-Murder pleaded no contest on Wednesday to two counts of attempted second-degree murder in connection to an incident in a Baton Rouge, La. nightclub eight years ago.
The man born Corey Miller, the youngest brother of rap mogul Percy "Master P" Miller and rapper Silkk The Shocker who was once engaged to '90s R&B star Monica, now goes by the name C-Miller. He was scheduled to appear in court later this week, but his lawyers entered the no contest plea instead.
Miller will be sentenced on Aug. 25. Prosecutors are reportedly recommending a 10-year sentence, and Miller will get credit for time served in jail or under house arrest.
Attempted second-degree murder carries a sentence of 10 to 50 years. A no-contest plea has the same effect as a guilty plea in criminal court but can't be used as an admission of guilt in civil court.
Police say Miller pulled a gun on a bouncer at Club Raggs and tried to shoot him and venue owner Norman Sparrow after he was denied entry when he refused to be searched on Aug. 14, 2001. Luckily, his semi-automatic pistol jammed when he pulled the trigger. He fled the scene, but the club's security surveillance camera caught the action.
Miller turned himself in to police two days after an arrest warrant was issued, but he denied the allegations.
Sparrow sued Miller shortly after the incident, but the suit will remain on hold because Miller also faces a separate murder charge related to the January 2002 killing of a 16-year-old during a nightclub brawl in Jefferson Parish, La.
Whatever sentence the 38-year-old receives from his no-contest plea will run concurrent with any time he may get for the murder charge.
Miller was originally convicted of murder in 2003, but that was overturned after a judge said prosecutors withheld information about witnesses. He's since been confined to his home and is scheduled to be retried on Aug. 3.
