Pete Yorn, Scarlett Johansson Break Up

Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson's Break Up

Forget David Bowie, Tom Waits and TV On The Radio's David Sitek. Who needs them when you have Pete Yorn? Scarlett Johansson will release a duets album titled Break Up with Yorn on Sept. 8 through ATCO/Rhino.

The disc was produced by electronic artist Sunny Levine (The Happy Mondays, Simply Red) and is inspired by Serge Gainsbourg's work in the '60s with actress/animal rights activist/former subject of John Lennon's fantasies Brigitte Bardot. Yorn wrote all the songs on the nine-track disc with the exception of a cover of Big Star's "I Am The Cosmos."

The album "chronicles a tempestuous affair," according to the USA Today newspaper, and Yorn got the idea in a dream (maybe about Johansson?).

The disc was recorded in 2006 and predates Johansson's 2008 Anywhere I Lay My Head disc of mostly Waits covers. Johansson recorded her vocals over two afternoon sessions.

You can hear opening track and first single "Realtor" on the album's website.

Johansson mentioned at the end of 2008 that she'd possibly release an album (not this one) in the future that would include more original material. But she hasn't abandoned the idea of releasing another album of covers, and mentioned she'd like to record renditions of Leonard Cohen's songs.

Yorn will release his fourth album, Back And Fourth, on June 23 through Columbia.
