Yoko Ono will bring the Plastic Ono Band back to life (in name if nothing else) on June 14 for their first U.K. gig at the Meltdown festival at London's Royal Festival Hall.
Ono will be backed by her son, Sean Lennon, Antony Hegarty of Antony And The Johnsons, Mark Ronson and Cornelius. It's not yet known whether any of the original Plastic Ono Band members will be involved, but "special guests" will be, according to the Meltdown website.
The Plastic Ono Band formed in 1969, the year before The Beatles dissolved. Ono, John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Manfred Mann bassist Klaus Voormann, drummer Alan White (later of Yes) and recently convicted producer Phil Spector all either played on the band's two studio recordings or appeared during live performances.
A DVD of Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band's 1969 performance at the Toronto Rock 'N' Roll Revival Festival will be released on June 23 through Shout! Factory Records.
The Montreal Museum Of Fine Arts is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Lennon and Ono's bed-in for peace at Montreal's Queen Elizabeth Hotel (which lasted from May 26 to June 2, 1969) with a free exhibit called Imagine: The Peace Ballad Of John & Yoko that runs until June 21.
Ono's last album was 2007's Yes, I'm A Witch.
