Radiohead have entered the studio with producer Nigel Godrich to begin working on what bassist Colin Greenwood says is a "noisy and chaotic" eighth studio album.

Greenwood told BBC Radio's 6music the band began recording the follow-up to 2007's In Rainbows last week with Godrich, who has worked on every Radiohead album since 1997's OK Computer.

The LP doesn't have a title and Greenwood said Radiohead don't have any completed songs yet, but are gradually piecing things together.

"We're at the stage where we've got the big Lego box out, we've tipped it out on the floor and we're thinking, 'What next?'" Greenwood said.

In Rainbows was originally released as a pay-what-you-want download, but Greenwood isn't sure what will happen with the new one.

"We've got lots of ideas, but we don't decide what we're going to do until we've finished the thing. I don't know, it's all up in the air, but it's good. It was all up in the air last time, and that was what was exciting."

Greenwood also had high praise for Godrich.

"I'm very impressed with, and grateful for, our producer Nigel and his ability to make [everything] sound vaguely plausible. Nigel is fantastically brilliant. He can take anything, whether it is an old hi-fi unit or four or five people in a band, and he'll try and make it work one way or another. I totally love and respect him for that."

Radiohead will play these dates:

Aug. 21 St. Poelten, Austria @ Frequency Festival
Aug. 23 Prague, Czech Republic @ Vystaviste (Bruselska Cesta)
Aug. 25 Poznan, Poland @ Cytadelacity Park
Aug. 29 Leeds, England @ Bramham Park (Leeds Festival)
Aug. 30 Reading, England @ Richfield Avenue (Reading Festival)
