Protest Attend World Moustache And Beard Championships

Protest The Hero's May 21 and 22 shows in Anchorage, Alaska were cancelled on Thursday, but they aren't letting that stop them from attending the city's World Beard And Moustache Championships, which were to coincide with their shows.

Four of the band's five members haven't shaved for five months or more and had entered the competition in an effort to represent Canada and march in Anchorage's Parade Of Beards.

"There's no way I'm going to miss this event, because I've been preparing for 3 years and shaved my moustache in prepartion for the Alaskan Whaler category, so I will definitely be attending," shaggy guitarist Tim "The Beard" Millar wrote in a MySpace blog entry on Thursday.

The World Beard And Moustache Championships are held every two years, and will take place on May 23 in Anchorage this year. Contestants can enter a wide variety of categories, including outrageous full beard freestyle, which we think Millar should enter if he hasn't already.

General admission tickets will run you $20, VIP seats (which enable you to sit with the contestants) cost $40, and special family passes that admit two adults and two children cost $50. You can buy them through the World Beard And Moustache Championships website.

Beard Team Canada, which Millar says formed a few months ago, is trying to raise funds for their registration fees, uniforms and travel expenses through their online store.

But Millar's beard may soon be gone.

"I've considered shaving off the beard and starting fresh for the competition in 2011," Millar wrote. "I'd like to raise money for Locks of Love, a charity that makes wigs for cancer patients under 18.

"Even though they wouldn't except a beard hair donation, I've considered donating my hair and raising money for them by taking donations on the online store. It's for a good cause and if we raise enough money, I'll reveal my chin that has been hiding for the last 3 years. I'm sure you're all curious to see if I really do have a chin."

Beard Team Canada is also supporting Locks Of Love and is taking donations through its website.
