No Doubt On Gossip Girl

No Doubt went back to their early days during a cameo appearance on Monday's episode of Gossip Girl.
The '80s-themed television episode saw Gwen Stefani sporting a bleach-blonde bouffant while she and the band (who appeared under the clever alias Snowed Out) performed a cover of Adam And The Ants' 1981 song, "Stand And Deliver." The song title, which is also the name of a 1988 film featuring Edward James Olmos as a teacher at an inner-city school, added to the show's novel recreation of the "Me" decade.
The episode, which was written as a flashback to 20 years earlier, was supposed to be a prequel to an upcoming CW network spin-off series featuring a young Lily Van Der Woodsen (nee Rhodes) as its central character — though it's since been canned, according to Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily blog. Van Der Woodsen, normally portrayed by Kelly Rutherford in Gossip Girl, was shown in this episode as a teenager played by Brittany Snow.
Music by Bloc Party, Cold War Kids and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs has been featured in Gossip Girl, while one episode ("Seventeen Candles") solely featured music from The Virgins.
Leighton Meester, who plays the privileged Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl, has signed a record deal with Universal Republic and hopes to release her debut album in the fall. You can hear her recent collaboration with Cobra Starship, "Good Girls Go Bad," on that band's MySpace page. The track will be the first single from the New York group's upcoming album.
Taylor Momsen (who play Jenny Humphrey) is the lead singer of The Pretty Reckless, whose debut is also expected this fall through Interscope Records. The band will open for The Veronicas on their U.S. tour this spring and summer.
Ed Westwick (who plays Chuck Bass) puts his on-screen ladykilling abilities to good use as the frontman for Britpop band The Filthy Youth, whose music you can hear on their MySpace page.
