The Tragically Hip will headline the inaugural Virgin Festival Nova Scotia when it hits Halifax's Citadel Hill on July 4.

The Offspring, Metric, Dinosaur Jr., Hey Rosetta!, Plants And Animals and Arkells will also play the festival. More artists will be announced shortly.

Tickets go on sale on Saturday at 9 a.m. through Ticketatlantic.com, the Halifax Metro Centre box office, Atlantic Superstores, the Future Shop website and the 208 Chain Lake Dr. Future Shop location. One day passes will run you $75.50, while VIP tickets will cost $160.50.

More information is available on the festival's website.

The Virgin Festival will be staged in Montreal on June 19 and 20 with performances from Black Eyed Peas, New Kids On The Block, Simple Plan, Akon, Hedley, the more recentlly named David Usher, Stereos, Jabbawockeez and Kreesha Turner, and others.

Virgin Festivals will also be held in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta, though the host cities and lineups have yet to be announced. Rumours are floating around that the Ontario edition could move from Toronto to Burl's Creek Family Event Park in Oro, Ont.

A rumour that we're totally starting is that Green Day could be playing it since their early September schedule is open and they've chosen to play Hamilton, not Toronto, on the first leg of their Canadian tour.

Last year's Virgin Festivals were in Calgary and Toronto. The Virgin Festival was staged in Vancouver in 2007 and was supposed to return last year, but was canned.

Here's the initial lineup for Virgin Festival Nova Scotia:

The Tragically Hip
The Offspring
Metric
Dinosaur Jr.
Hey Rosetta!
Plants And Animals
Arkells

Well it's much better than the Montreal 2 day lineup but still pales compared to Osheaga.
