Hypochondriacs Could Ruin Glastonbury

This year's Glastonbury Festival could be cancelled because of the swine flu virus.

Glastonbury festival organizers told the U.K.'s The Sun tabloid they were holding emergency talks to discuss how best to deal with swine flu should the outbreak become worse.

This year's sold-out festival is expected to draw about 140,000 people to its site in Pilton, England from June 24 to 29.

"So many people gathered in one place is a risk and if the government wanted to pull public events, like in Mexico, we'd be one of the first to go," a spokesperson told The Sun.

"It would be crazy not to put a plan in place. Right now, though, it's full steam ahead."

Festival organizers were responding to ticket holders who'd contacted them about how swine flu could impact the event, accordinding to an article in the U.K.'s Guardian newspaper.

The swine flu outbreak began in Mexico, which prompted the government to close schools and daycares and cancel large public events to quell the spread of the disease.

The U.K. has 34 confirmed swine flu cases and 464 suspected cases to date, according to Britain's Health Protection Agency.

Many news organizations have reported the disease is spreading much more slowly than had originally been expected. The New York Times newspaper reported Mexico's swine flu outbreak may also be smaller than had previously been thought.

Many people from outside the U.K. attend the Glastonbury Festival, and the World Health Organization has said there's no rationale for travel restrictions to Mexico or any other countries due to the spread of the swine flu virus.

This year's Glastonbury Festival will be headlined by Blur, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. Franz Ferdinand, Lily Allen, Lady GaGa, Kasabian and Animal Collective are among the other artists on the bill.

The festival producers should watch the video that The Streets' Mike Skinner made this week and calm down.
