It's official: Slash will mentor the top four contestants on American Idol next week... and rockers all over the world will begin ceremonially burning their Slash's Snakepit albums.

The Velvet Revolver and former Guns N' Roses guitarist will act as the celebrity mentor for remaining contestants Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen (who?) during "Rock Week."

"I'm going to attempt to make 'Rock Week' on American Idol exactly that," the top-hatted one wrote on his Twitter account on Wednesday.

He added later that day: "Next week should prove to be very interesting."

Blabbermouth.net reports Alice Cooper guitarist Keri Kelli will join Slash for his AI mentoring role next week, though no other details were given about the rocker's appearance.

Things seem to be going better than expected in the Idol camp as contestants prepare for next week's performances.

"The contestants from AI picked some really cool songs for next week, thank god!" Slash Tweeted earlier today (Friday).

But don't expect Slash to be recruiting for Scott Weiland's replacement in Velvet Revolver during his stint on the show.

"If we wanted to make a quick buck, that would be the way to go," he previously told The Pulse Of The Radio.

"There's such a huge lack of integrity in that process, be it putting a band together or finding a relationship or finding a new best friend, whatever the premise. It's just a cheap way of doing things and I don't think that you can actually find the individual or the character or the quality of whatever it is that's important."

Reality TV burn!

No Doubt and former American Idol hopeful Chris Daughtry's band Daughtry are also slotted to appear on the May 6 episode of America Idol, a.k.a. Rock Week's results show.

Daughtry will debut their new single "No Surprise" from their upcoming as-yet-untitled sophomore album. The band are currently in the studio finishing the follow-up to their 2006 self-titled debut, which will be released on July 14 via 19 Recordings and RCA.

No Doubt are preparing for their summer tour and putting the finishing touches on their upcoming album, which is due out sometime next year. They play the Bamboozle festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 3 before officially embarking on their tour on May 16.

American Idol's "Rock Week" starts on May 5 at 8 p.m. EST.
