Toronto's
Five Blank Pages will play their final show at this year's
Over The Top Festival on May 23 at Toronto's Mod Club.
Singer/guitarist Noyan Hilmi, Hilmi's wife, singer/keyboardist Pinar Ozyetis, and drummer Michael Reles will be joined at the gig by former bassist and current Oh No Forest Fires member Rajiv Thavanathan, ex-drummer Chelen Hilmi, This Is Picture's Rob Shorthill and The Primordials' Shawn Jurek.
Chelen Hilmi will sing back-up harmonies and drum on a few songs, while the band will also invite a trumpet player, trombonist, cellist and violinist out to the gig. Oh No Forest Fires and Boys Who Say No will open the show.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door and are available through
Ticketweb and Toronto record stores Rotate This and Soundscapes.
"After five years and hundreds of performances, it has come time to play our final show as Five Blank Pages," Noyan Hilmi says. "Our lives are now moving on to place other priorities ahead of the band.
"It was only a matter of time until the scales would tip, thereby putting Five Blank Pages behind us. It would only feel right to signal the end of the band with a celebration of what we've accomplished, who we've had the pleasure of working with, and the music we've created."
The band will release a four-song EP,
Young Glow, as a parting gift to their fans. It will be available at the show and you'll be able to buy it in hand-numbered limited edition packaging. It'll also be available for download through the band's website, iTunes and other digital platforms.
Five Blank Pages formed in 2003 in Brampton, Ont., and originally consisted of Noyan Hilmi, Thavanathan, Ozyetis and Chelen Hilmi. Their six-song debut EP,
Spaces To Occupy And Abandon, was released a year later and was followed by the
Last Blush full-length in 2007.
Here are the songs on
Young Glow:
"Stem Skin & Pit"
"To No One"
"Cardigan"
