Judas Priest Golf Course Opens

K.K. Downing

"One Shot At Glory" from Judas Priest's Painkiller album has potentially taken on an entirely new meaning.

Priest guitarist K.K. Downing has just opened a "five-star" golf course on his Bridgnorth mansion property in Shropshire, England, according to the Birmingham Post.

The first nine holes have opened to the public. The next nine are currently under construction and a third set of nine are in the works. Don't expect to just show up and get a round in, though.

Downing wants the Astbury Hall golf course to be a high-end experience through and through. In addition to immaculate fairways, the course will also have a high end clubhouse, and a max of two parties — 10 people in all — will be permitted to play on the course each day.

Those eager to wield their two-pronged putters are going to have to throw down the cash, too.

"It takes a lot of money, and I mean a lot of money, to provide a great golf course, but as long as I can attract enough money to pay for it, I'll be happy," says Downing.

That said, even though the course and all its amenities will be high-end, it won't be the sort of place that'd try to run Rodney Dangerfield out of the clubhouse.

"It will not be like that," said Downing. "After all, I’m a long-haired rock star and stuffy people may not go along with that. This will be a top-class golf centre with no snobbery."

Perhaps Downing would be willing to host something we'll call the Hard As Irons skins game, a showdown of mythical hellions Anne Murray and Celine Dion, who were ranked #1 and #3 overall in the Golf For Women magazine Top 25 Celebrity Female Golfer List in 2007.
