The Nine Inch Nails/Jane’s Addiction (NIN|JA) North American tour kicks off on May 8 in West Palm Beach, Fla., and NIN frontman Trent Reznor is encouraging fans to bring equipment to record shows for their personal use.
Fans will be permitted to "bring in their personal cameras, video and audio recorders," according to a message outlining the recording policy posted on the NIN website on Tuesday.
"Please try to use common sense as we are trying to ensure this experience is great for everyone attending. Don't show up with a television crew and a recording studio."
SLR cameras and lenses are allowed, as are "high-quality camcorders" and "flash-based audio recorders with a stereo hand-held mic." But shoulder-mounted video equipment and other gear outlined in the policy aren't kosher. Any material must also be used for non-profit, personal use, and the policy doesn't apply to music festivals.
"We will do our best to make sure venue security staff is aware of our camera policy," the message continues. "However, there are always going to be cases where local security misunderstands and attempts to enforce a stricter camera policy. This is unfortunately one of the hazards of attempting to be considerably more open about recording than most of the concert industry."
Set times have been announced for the tour. Street Sweeper Social Club, featuring former Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello and The Coup's Boots Riley, will start their 30-minute set at 7 p.m. for weekday shows. Nine Inch Nails' 90-minute set begins at 7:45 and Jane's Addiction's headlining slot begins at 9:30. All times will be pushed back 30 minutes for weekend shows.
