J Dilla Compilation Coming

J Dilla
A posthumous album of unreleased J Dilla material dubbed Jay $tay Paid will be released through Nature Sounds on June 2.

The 28-track disc was executive produced by Maureen Yancey, Dilla's mother, and was mixed and arranged by Pete Rock. Jay $tay Paid is mostly instrumental, but features guest appearances from DOOM, Raekwon and The Roots' Black Thought.

Dilla (real name James Yancey) was a remixer and producer before he formed rap four-piece Slum Village in 1996. He released his Welcome 2 Detroit solo album as Jay Dee in 2001 and left the group a year later. Ruff Draft followed in 2003. Dilla's final album, the instrumental Donuts, was released three days before he passed away from complications with lupus in 2006. The posthumous The Shining came out in August of that year.
