Velvet Revolver and former Guns N' Roses axeman Slash has been asked to mentor contestants on American Idol.
Slash (real name Saul Hudson) revealed on his Twitter that he'd been asked to help the remaining contestants out as part of "Rock Week." No other information is available, but it likely means Slash will appear on the show next week, since this is "Rat Pack" week with the top five contestants, and the top three week usually features "judges' choice" episodes, according to the website of the 93X FM radio station.
Hopefully Slash doesn't use the American Idol appearance to look for a new Velvet Revolver singer, since former frontman Scott Weiland's job is still reportedly vacant.
"On the VR front, not a whole lot news to report otherwise, which is a drag," Slash wrote in a MySpace blog entry on Friday.
"But, this is one of those situations where just when you're ready to give up, something great happens. So, we're hanging in there until then, no matter what."
Slash is working on a new solo album with producer Eric Valentine (The All-American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday) that will include former Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh Freese and former Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney and guest appearances from Ozzy Osbourne and Avenged Sevenfold singer M. Shadows. Fergie is also said to be involved.
"We are 6 tracks into it & it sounds really great, great playing & super killer tones, not to mention stellar vocals so far," Slash wrote in the same blog entry.
"We have about 8 songs left to record & I'm really excited about every one."
Slash has reportedly recorded songs with the working titles "We're All Gonna Die," "These Last Words," "Crucify The Dead" and "Beautiful, Dangerous."
