New Vampire Weekend Album In September

Vampire Weekend are recording their sophomore album in Brooklyn and hope to have it in stores by September.

Singer/guitarist Erza Koenig told Entertainment Weekly magazine that they've been working on it every day "for the last month or so." Keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij, who has the best last name ever and who produced the band's self-titled 2008 debut, will do it again.

"It's definitely going to be a recognizably Vampire Weekend sound, but there are going to be new sounds," Koenig said. "We're trying to challenge ourselves not to use the same bag of tricks that we used on the first album — different instruments, stuff like that."

"White Sky," which the band played on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last month, is recorded and could end up on the album. Koenig describes the studio version as being "much different" from what was heard on television.

"Because we were still working on the recording, we decided to do this very slow acoustic version [for Jimmy Fallon]. The real version is more like how we've been playing it live. There's a lot of synth sounds, and it's a little more pumped up."
