Beck's One Foot In The Grave, the collection of folky tunes he put out just after his 1994 Mellow Gold debut, will be reissued on May 19 by Universal Music.
Calvin Johnson recorded One Foot In The Grave in 1993 at his Olympia, Wash. basement studio on reel-to-reel eight-track tapes. Beck is backed by members of Built To Spill, Spinanes and Love As Laughter. The album was released on K Records just over three months after Mellow Gold.
"I'd never worked with anyone so focused, or whose creativity flowed so freely," Johnson says. "Songs altered structure and lyrics take to take, a fascinating process to witness."
The reissue will include an additional disc with 13 previously unreleased tracks from the One Foot In The Grave sessions and three songs from an out-of-print seven-inch single. One is an early version of "It's All In Your Mind," which was later included on 2002's Sea Change.
You can buy One Foot In The Grave as a double CD, on two 180-gram vinyl LPs or as a digital download. The One Foot In The Grave "complete package" can be purchased on Beck's website for $105 U.S. (about $129 Canadian). It includes all the above along with a signed poster, collectible tote bag and limited-edition T-shirt.
