The Pixies' five studio records will be assembled in two box sets titled Minotaur that will be available to pre-order on June 15 via the Artist In Residence website.
Come On Pilgrim (1987), Surfer Rosa (1988), Doolittle (1989), Bossanova (1990) and Trompe Le Monde (1991) will be repackaged with extra artwork created with the assistance of Vaughan Oliver and Simon Larbalestier, the men responsible for the original album designs.
"My starting point would always be the music, reading the lyrics, talking with the band," Oliver said in a RollingStone.com article. "The images that Charles (Thompson, a.k.a. Black Francis) painted with his lyrics really struck a chord.
"His work is full of fantastic imagery that always appealed to me, and those were ideas I was trying to reflect with the packaging."
The discs will feature the original recordings and won't be remastered. There will be no extra live tracks and it's still up in the air if any bonus music whatsoever will be included.
The $175 U.S. (about $217 Canadian) deluxe edition will feature the five records on 24k layered CD and Blu-Ray discs as well as a DVD and Blu-Ray featuring the band's 1991 performance at London, England's Brixton Academy and all of the Pixies' music videos. It will also include a 54-page book of Oliver and Larbalestier's project artwork and will be packaged in a custom slip case.
The $450 limited edition encompasses the deluxe edition plus all five records on 180-gram vinyl. They'll be accompanied by a Giclee print of Oliver's artwork and a 72-page hardcover book of Oliver and Larbalestier's project artwork. It will be packaged in a custom clamshell cover.
Artists In Residence has previously created deluxe packages for Nine Inch Nails, Beck and Sigur Ros.
The Pixies will play the Isle Of Wight Festival at Seaclose Park on Newport island in the English Channel on June 14. More shows will be announced.
