Toronto's DD/MM/YYYY have put a slightly more polished finish on their latest album, Black Square, and have sort of felt a backlash from their once supportive fan base.

"There was this one guy in Quebec recently who told us that we were getting too big," says Matt King, who plays everything from the drums to alto sax for the eclectic group.

"It was kind of weird to hear that, but I guess, for him, we were getting too big. You can't please everyone."

While DD/MM/YYYY aren't taking their cues from this one dedicated (perhaps overly dedicated?) fan, the band plan to get back in to the studio soon and keep things much more straighforward.

"We have some dates across Ontario, but, shortly after, we're going to record some new songs for a seven-inch split that'll come out later this year," says King. "The recording process will be a lot simpler though [compared to Black Square]."

Don't expect the new music to sound like previous album Are They Masks?, because King has no idea what the sessions will produce.

Who's the split single going to be with? Well, that too is a mystery.

"We definitely have a list of groups we'd love to work with, but I guess it really depends on how the songs turn out," King explains. "And I don't really want to say any names, because who knows what could happen."
