Scott Storch Charged With Grand Theft Auto

Nova Scotia-born hip-hop producer Scott Storch (The Roots, Dr. Dre) has been charged with grand theft auto.

Storch was arrested on Friday in Miami, Fla. and was released after posting an undisclosed amount of bail shortly afterward.

"We are disappointed in the decision to take a civil dispute and file it as a criminal charge," Storch's lawyer, Bradford Cohen, told TMZ. "There are many facts that, when revealed, will clearly demonstrate that there was no criminal wrong-doing on behalf of my client."

MTV News obtained a police report which states Storch had been leasing a 2004 Bentley GT from Atlas Leasing Company since February 2006 and was supposed to return it in March 2008, but hadn't, according to the firm.

Atlas Leasing says Storch's alleged failure to return the Bentley has cost it $65,000 in revenue that it could have made from other clients leasing the car, according to MTV News.

This isn't the first time in the last year that Storch has had legal problems. It was revealed last June that he owed $512,000 in outstanding property taxes. A warrant was issued for the 35-year-old's arrest when he failed to attend a child-support hearing. He was then $46,000 behind in child support payments to his ex-wife for his two-year-old son. His $10-million Miami mansion was later foreclosed on.

Storch also made headlines late last year when rapper DMX — who was then wanted for failure to appear in court — was found at Storch's mansion. DMX was later sentenced to 90 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to one felony count of theft, one count each of felony possession or use of marijuana and a narcotic drug and a misdemeanour count of animal cruelty.
