Arkells were picked by the organizers of last month's Canadian Music Fest as the winners of the Galaxie Rising Stars Award Of The CBC.
"The Arkells were chosen based on their talent as artists and ability to connect with the audience," says Canadian Music Week president Neill Dixon. "The way that the fans receive them, I believe they are really going places."
Arkells performed at the Independent Music Awards and the Sirius Songwriters Cafe during CMW. Their prize includes $1,000 as part of the CBC's program to recognize and promote developing artists.
"CMW's support of Canadian music both here and internationally is amazing," says Arkells singer/guitarist Max Kerman. "We took great pride in performing at Canadian Music Fest and at the CMW showcase at SXSW.
"We are also big fans of the CBC. It is really an incredible feeling for us to be honoured this way."
