The Killers' Brandon Flowers has called out Nirvana's Kurt Cobain for making rock 'n' roll depressing.
"I don't mean it in a bad way, but I think Kurt Cobain and grunge took the fun out of rock 'n roll," Flowers said in an interview with Britain's Daily Star tabloid.
Flowers blamed the lack of support for The Killers' latest effort in the U.S. on the '90s grunge movement.
"Everywhere but America, our new album Day & Age has grabbed people," said Flowers.
"Everything's changing, though, and it's starting to become a lot more playful and brighter."
Sunday was the 15th anniversary of Cobain's death. A coroner estimated that he committed suicide on April 5, 1994. His body was found at his Seattle home by an electrician three days later.
Flowers went on to tell the tabloid that there's no truth to recent rumours that The Killers are having internal squabbles.
The U.K.'s Daily Mirror tabloid ran a story on April 2 which stated The Killers were fighting due to having no time to themselves and being "pushed to the limit."
"They're exhausted," a source told the tabloid. "They haven't had a break since they first formed and it has started getting to them.
"When they started out they were all good friends, but they just don't seem to get on any more. They are sick of the sight of each other.
"Brandon tries to be a peacemaker, but when he loses it, the whole band falls apart. They know taking a break could damage their career but they can't see a way out and they don't want to split."
But Flowers told the Daily Star that the band are already thinking about their fourth album.
"We're navigators," the singer said. "We like to try out new things and it keeps us on our toes. It's fun.
"I grew up seeing people like Morrissey. I think I've still got a lot to learn, but there's something about performing a big show that makes it more incredible for me.
"We realized early on we wanted to do it right and always try to do Las Vegas proud."
