Ex-Stereophonics Drummer Publishes Memoir

Stuart Cable

Former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable released a memoir today (Monday) in the U.K. about his stint in the band.

Cable was booted from the Stereophonics in 2003. The autobiographical Demons And Cocktails is intended to "reveal the true personalities" of the other band members, according to NME.com. It features a foreward by Howard Marks and quotes from Oasis' Liam Gallagher, writer Jon Davies and others.

Cable also reveals the full extent of his drug use as a member of the band in the memoir. One anecdote reveals how he and a woman he fancied did eight grams of cocaine over two days. He later found the woman shaking on the bathroom floor, but she eventually came around after Cable freaked out.

"When we went on tour, coke was never far behind for me and once a show was over I turned into some kind of coke-taking zombie," reads an excerpt from the book on Wales Online.

"It was party time and a white Christmas, all rolled into one.

"I was always the type of person who arrived at a party first and was one of the last to leave. And the drugs had made me thirstier and crazier than ever."

Cable launched a talk show called Cable TV in 2002, and the 'Phonics reasoned that his television career was taking his time away from the band and used it as justification to give him the boot. Cable was replaced by drummer Javier Weyler, who is joined in the Stereophonics by singer/guitarist Kelly Jones, bassist Richard Jones and guitarist Adam Zindani. (You can check out a video interview with Jones and Weyer here.)

After Cable was fired from the Stereophonics, he drummed with Stone Gods, a rock band featuring former members of The Darkness. He currently hosts two shows on the U.K.'s Kerrang! 105.2 FM radio station and hosted a weekend show with XFM South Wales until the station was sold last year.

Cable now drums for Killing For Company, a quintet that's completed by vocalist Greg Jones, guitarists Andy Williams and Richie King and bassist Steve Williams.

Stereophonics will play the Isle Of Wight festival in Newport, England on June 13.
