Neil Young's Archives Coming In June

Neil Young

We're taking a "we'll believe it when we see it" approach like we did with Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy, but Neil Young's long-awaited and frequently delayed The Archives Vol. 1 1963-1972 box set is now scheduled to arrive in stores on June 2.

The 10-DVD, 10-Blu-ray disc or eight-CD sets form the first volume of Young's Archives project, for which he produced all of the material. It covers the period from his earliest recordings with The Squires in Winnipeg in 1963 through to 1972's landmark Harvest and beyond.

It features studio and live tracks (including some that have never been heard by the public before) from Young solo and with Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Crazy Horse.

The DVD and Blu-ray sets include an interactive timeline of Young's life and his 1973 film, Journey Through The Past. They also come with a 236-page, full-colour, hardcover book that features additional archival materials, tapes database, detailed descriptions of the music and artwork, a foldout Archives poster, a custom keeper for the 10 sleeved discs, and more. The CD set comes with a descriptive booklet.

All of this doesn't come cheap. The CD edition sells for $99.99 U.S. Add $100 for the DVD version or $200 for the Blu-ray disc collection. Discs can also be purchased separately for those on a tighter budget.

Fans who pre-order a set from Young's website will receive a free Blu-Ray preview copy of one of the discs and an exclusive seven-inch vinyl single with the songs "Aurora" and "Mustang."

Young's new Fork In The Road concept album about his LincVolt electric car project will be released by Reprise Records on April 7. He's released two videos for lead single "Johnny Magic" and made a clip for "Cough Up The Bucks" available on his MySpace video page on March 17.
