More Hendrix Material Coming

Jimi Hendrix

If you miss Jimi Hendrix and have worn out your old Jimi Hendrix Experience LPs, cassettes and CDs, you may soon have 10 more years' worth of material to go through.

Universal Music Publishing Group is now the administrator of the Hendrix catalogue outside of the United States. The deal, which Universal signed with Experience Hendrix, could result in a wealth of Hendrix material, including "10 more years of Hendrix music," being released, according to Janie Hendrix, the legendary guitarist's sister.

Two albums could be released later this year, Janie told Billboard.com, including a disc that would come out on Experience Hendrix's Dagger bootleg imprint that would be sold through its website.

A DVD that chronicles the Jimi Hendrix Experience's performances at London, England's Royal Albert Hall on Feb. 18 and 24, 1969 could also be released with "behind the scenes" footage filmed over a month that year. It would include footage of Hendrix at home, in London and backstage at the shows.

An unreleased tape of Hendrix performing 14 acoustic versions of songs that would eventually end up on 1968's Electric Ladyland album will be auctioned on April 28, according to Britain's The Independent newspaper.

Hendrix recorded the tape and gave it to his neighbour, Carl Niekirk, after Niekirk leant him some milk and sugar. Niekirk gave it to his sister, who sold it to Mark Sutherland and Paul Jackson, owners of London, England's Cafe Music Studios.

The tape is expected to fetch between 50,000 to 100,000 British pounds (about $89,000 to $179,000 Canadian).
