The Edge = Bad Environmentalist?

Bob Dylan isn't the only musician making a stink in Malibu, Calif. The city's residents are also mad at U2's The Edge.
The guitarist plans to build five homes across 1,000 acres on two areas that border Malibu's Latigo Canyon and Serra Retreat, according to LA Weekly magazine.
The Edge (real name Dave Evans) is said to have owned the properties for three years. During that time, residents allege he's evicted the Malibu Mountain Archery Club, an area institution; his developments have put the property's wildlife in danger; and his plans to remove a mountain on the land would cause erosion.
"Two years ago, he pulled up outside my house and mentioned he was going to be my new neighbor," resident Jim Smith told the magazine. "He was friendly and charismatic. I was happy knowing he was buying the land, as I assumed he would be sensitive to the environment — though that's not the case."
Smith said he spoke to The Edge about his concerns, and "he told me he was sympathetic to my concerns, though he's done nothing. He's not walking the walk of an environmentalist."
Candace Brown, Malibu mayoral candidate and councilman Jefferson Wagner's partner, told the magazine that workers on the property have dug a 15-foot trench "the size of three football fields" that has reportedly trapped deer and foxes.
